Winning a new customer costs several times more than bringing an existing one back. Yet most small businesses spend all their energy on new customers. Customers usually don't stay away because of a bad experience, they simply forget. Here are 7 ways to change that.
1. Give them a reason to come back
A simple goal like "10th coffee free" keeps you on their mind. Keep it reachable: 8-10 stamps for a coffee shop, 5-6 visits for a barber.
2. Give the first stamp right away
The card should start on the first visit. An empty card doesn't motivate. Some businesses give 2 stamps on the first visit so customers feel they're already on their way.
3. Reward your best customers
Not all customers are the same. Don't treat someone who comes 10 times a month like someone who comes once a year. Points and tiers (Silver, Gold, Platinum) make your best customers feel special.
4. Offer a choice
Offer a small reward catalog instead of a single reward. Some want a free coffee, others a dessert. Choosing a reward with points keeps customers engaged longer.
5. Get your staff involved
Staff who mention the program at the till make the difference. "Do you have our card? Scan the QR and I'll add your stamp" takes 3 seconds.
6. Be visible
Keep the QR poster at the counter and table cards on tables. A program customers don't see doesn't exist. Printable table cards and posters in the dashboard are made for this.
7. Measure
How many customers opened a card, how many came a second time? You can't improve what you don't measure. A digital card shows this on its own.
See it in numbers
